TRANSPOSON

TRANSPOSON :-

11.)    Transposon is a DNA segment or genetic element moving from one chromosome to another
22.)    The term 'Transposon' was introduced by R.W Hedge and A.E Jacob in 1974
33.)     Transposon occurs in both eukaryotic  and prokaryotic where they are present on bacterial chromosome and on the plasmids
44.)    The movement process of transposon is termed transposition which depends on recombination between DNA sequences
55.)    Transposon are autonomous units and encodes an enzymes called transposase that catalyses its own transposition
66.)    The first transposon to be identified were the insertion sequences which is occur in E.coli
77.)    Barbara, McClintock (1920-1992) discovered  discovered “Controlling elements ” that could move from one location to another on the chromosome of maize
88.)    Today, McClintock’s controlling elements are called movable genetic elements , transposon or “jumping gene “
99.)    McClintook got Nobel prize in 1983 for  the discovery of jumping gene

110.)  Two transposable controlling elements discovered by McClintock are dissociation (Ds) and Activator (Ac),both can jump to any chromosome from their original location on chromosome 9
