VENTRICLES OF BRAIN

VENTRICLES OF BRAIN

  • There are four cavities within brain called cerebral ventricles
  • Ventricles 1st & 2nd are called as paracoels or lateral ventricles located in cerebral hemisphere
  • Anteriorly, the lateral ventricles are separated by a thin membrane , the septum pellucidum
  • Venticles 3rd is a narrow cavity known as diocoel at the midline above hypothalamus & between the right and left halves of the thalamus
  • Ventricles 4th , the metacoel , lies between the brain stem & the cerebellum
  • Foramen of Monro connects lateral ventricles with diocoel
  • Cavity of midbrain called iter or cerebral aqueduct communicates diocoel with fourth ventricles or metacoel
  • Paired Foramina of luschka are present on the lateral Wall of metacoel
  • Paired Formina of luschka are present on the lateral wall of metacoel
  • Foramen of megendie and foramina of luschka “Three holes” permit cerebrospinal fluid to flow out into the subarachnoid space from metacoel
