Type of vitamin & Functions

Vitamin Required By Man

Water soluble

Vitamin-A (Retinol)
Function = Enter into photochemical reaction in rods in retina of eye
Deficiency disease = Nyctalopia, Xerophthalmia

Vitamin-B (Calciferol)
Function= Calcification and hardening of bone , absorption of calcium & phosphorous.
Deficiency disease = Rickets in children, osteomalacia in adults

Vitamin- E (Tocopherol)
Function = An antioxidant & exerts action on the cytochrome system in cell respiration
Deficiency disease = Sterility

Vitamin- K (Phylloquinone)
Function= required for synthesis  of prothrombin in liver.
Deficiency disease = Haemorrhage

Water soluble

Vitamin-B1 (Thaimine)
Function =  required as  coenzyme for decarboxylation & certain other processes in celluler metabolism
Deficiency disease = Beri beri

Vitamin – B2 (Riboflavine )
Function =  Forms flavine coenzyme  requires as hydrogen carrier
Deficiency disease = Cheilosis

Vitamin = B3 (pantothenic acid)
Function =  Forms coenzyme A related with cellular metabolism
Deficiency disease =Burning feet syndrome

Vitamin – PP (Niacin {Nicotinic acid})
Function =  Forms coenzyme NAD & NADP required as hydrogen acceptors in cell respiration
Deficiency disease =Pellagra

Vitamin = M Or Bc (Folic acid)
Function =  required for formation of red blood corpuscles
Deficiency disease = Dermatitis, anaemia,etc

Vitamin= B6 (Pyridoxine)
Function =  Forms coenzyme required for synthesis of reactions in celluler metabolism

Vitamin=B7 (Biotin )
Function =  Required as coenzyme for carboxylation reactions in celluler metabolism

Vitamin- B12 (
Cobalamin)
Function =  Required for formation of red blood corpuscles
Deficiency disease = Pernicious anaemia

Vitamin- C (Absorbic Acid)
Function =  Required for formation of intercellular material
Deficiency disease = Scurvey
